Sustainable e-Infrastructure for research provides a vital foundation for the science base. IMCS has longstanding traditions in developing and maintaining progressive ICT infrastructure and providing public services in related areas. Today IMCS provides GRID computing environment and ½ TB data storage.
Different layers of e-Infrastructure are available today to support scientific research in Europe: GÉANT network, GRID technologies and field-specific e-Infrastructures. IMCS plans to develop all of them. The current IMCS e-Infrastructure initiatives include:
- ensuring the Latvian Academic network and membership in European academic network GEANT3;
- development of National Grid Infrastructure and membership in EGEE (The Enabling Grids for e-science);
- establishment of the field-specific research e-Infrastructure and joining collaboration projects like CLARIN (Common Language Resources and Technology Initiative), DARIAH (Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities), ELIXIR (European Life Sciences Infrastructure for Biological Information), PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) etc.
