This year for the 24th time under the guidance of IMSC UL’s researchers Latvian Informatics (programming) Olympiad took place, which allowed 8th to 12th graders to test their knowledge and skills in algorithm programming. Latvian Informatics Olympiad traditionally consists of four stages: school stage, district stage, national stage and elimination stage for the competition. At the first three stages the competition is being organized in two age groups (8th to 10th and 11th to 12th graders). At the elimination stage pupils from both age groups compete for the rights to represent Latvia in international competitions.
IMSC UL provides the premises and infrastructure necessary for the judges, as well as services of IMSC UL data centre servers to test the tasks of all competition stages. The institute also maintains Latvian Informatics Olympiad homepage – www.lio.lv.
Thanks to the financial support of the IMSC UL, led by IMSC UL’s researchers Mārtiņš Opmanis and Rihards Opmanis, young informatics specialists could participate in the 17th Informatics Olympiad in Lyngby (Denmark) as well as other international competitions this season.
Traditionally the institute is also the place where season’s closing and victors’ awarding of the international pupil IT competition “Bebrs” takes place.
IMSC UL’s specialists (Mārtiņš Opmanis, Rihards Opmanis, Andrejs Cibulis) are actively involved in the preparation and correction of Latvian Mathematics Olympiad’s tasks (15 of the institutes researchers were taking part in checking of the national stage’s tasks).
